What Is Invisalign® Express?
Invisalign® is a revolutionary orthodontic system that uses clear, plastic aligners to straighten teeth and transform the smile. With traditional Invisalign®, aligners are changed about every two weeks until the teeth reach their desired alignment, a process that generally requires 18 to 30 aligners over about a year's time. Advances in Invisalign® treatment have led to an expedited treatment process, called Invisalign® Express. Invisalign® Express provides the benefits of traditional Invisalign® orthodontics in a fraction of the time. Many patients enjoy a straightened smile in about half the time of traditional Invisalign® and often only need around 10 aligners to achieve their desired appearance.
What to Expect with Invisalign® Express Treatment
When undergoing treatment with Invisalign® Express, patients will need to wear their aligners throughout the day and night, for a total of at least 22 hours per day. Aligners may be removed when eating and to brush and floss the teeth, making treatment with Invisalign® Express comfortable and convenient.
Patients should expect to wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, after which trays are changed to gradually shift the position of the teeth. Followup dental appointments will be needed about every four to six weeks to check the progress of treatment. Once the desired alignment is achieved, a retainer will be provided and should be worn while sleeping to maintain the results of Invisalign® Express treatment.
Candidates for Invisalign® Express
Invisalign® Express has helped many people with minor orthodontic issues achieve a beautiful smile in less time than traditional Invisalign® treatment and more discreetly than traditional orthodontics. Accordingly, candidates for Invisalign® Express often includes those who would like to improve their smile in as little as six months without the use of metal braces.
Although most people with alignment issues would love to have orthodontic treatment completed as quickly and discreetly as possible, not everyone is an ideal candidate for Invisalign® Express. With that said, ideal candidates include those with minor orthodontic issues such as slightly rotated teeth, minor crowding, or minimal midline asymmetry. Those who have more moderate alignment issues may still enjoy the discreet orthodontic treatment of traditional Invisalign®.
