Fast Adult Orthodontic Options By Kellyn Hodges on July 24, 2019

Tooth colored braces for adultsMany adults have crooked teeth that were not addressed during adolescence. There is no shame in this at all. There are numerous ways to straighten your teeth at all stages of life, and some may be faster than others. Dr. Kellyn Hodges has helped so many adults in the Philadelphia, PA area undergo safe and fast orthodontics.

While traditional orthodontics can take more than a year, some treatments for adults cut that treatment time into just a handful of months. Let’s consider the potential for fast adult orthodontics below.

Is Fast Orthodontic Treatment Really Possible?

Yes.

While traditional orthodontic treatment can take a year or longer to complete, there are a few treatment options that allow for expedited straightening of the teeth. This is great for adults who want to have straighter smiles but would prefer to avoid lengthy treatment times that affect their career and busy lives.

What Options Are Available?

There are numerous treatment options for rapid adult orthodontics out there. The three fast adult orthodontic options we’ll focus on here are:

  • Invisalign®
  • Fast Acting Adult Braces (FAAB)
  • Wilckodontics® (Accelerated Osteogentic Orthodontics™)

Invisalign

Invisalign is one of the most popular alternatives to braces for adults as well as teens. Rather than using brackets and wires, Invisalign relies on clear plastic aligner trays to achieve its results. These trays can be removed with ease, and are worn at all times save for when eating, drinking, and cleaning your teeth.

Typically, Invisalign treatment takes about a year or less to complete. That’s several months faster than traditional braces. During your visit to our practice serving the Philadelphia area, we can provide a custom treatment timeline just for you.

Fast Acting Adult Braces (FAAB)

Fast acting adult braces is another good option for people who would like a fast orthodontic procedure. Rather than straightening all of a patient’s teeth, fast acting adult braces focuses on the just the anterior (front) teeth. That means that the incisors and canines are targeted while the premolars and molars are not treated at all.

During FAAB treatment, patients can either have braces placed or could have custom Invisalign aligners made. Whatever the case may be, the front teeth are straightened in far less time than having all of the teeth straightened, leading to a better looking smile in about 10 months if not far fewer.

Wilckodontics (Accelerated Osteogentic Orthodontics)

Finally, there’s Wilckodontics, another great option for fast adult orthodontic treatment. Rather than just relying on brackets, wires, or aligners to exert force on the teeth, Wilckodontics also uses carefully planned oral surgery. The procedure removes part of the alveolar bone, which is where the tooth sockets are housed. With the alveolar bone gone, braces can move your teeth faster than usual. As your teeth are shifted, the bone tissue grows back quickly.

Thanks to Wilckodontics, a patient can have a beautiful and properly aligned smile in eight months or less. Some patients achieve results in as few as three months.

Which Option Is Right for Me?

All three of these rapid adult orthodontic options have their pros and cons, and one treatment may be more ideal for you than the others depending on your dental health goals. We would be more than happy to discuss this with you during a consultation.
