Oral Surgery: Implant Placement, Extractions, and More

We take every measure to provide conservative treatment whenever possible, but oral surgery is sometimes the best approach to restoring the health of your smile. At our dentistry practice in Philadelphia, PA, we provide a variety of oral surgery procedures including tooth extractions, dental implant placement, and sinus lifts. To provide outstanding results, Dr. Kellyn Hodges works with highly qualified oral surgeons during each procedure. Our office is equipped with advanced technology to ensure safety and precision.

Dental Implant Placement

For patients with missing teeth, our team may recommend dental implants and implant-supported restorations. Dental implants are small titanium devices designed to replace lost tooth roots and support prostheses such as dental crowns and bridges. Placement typically requires two surgeries separated by about four to six months of healing.

Tooth Extractions

Our surgeons can perform tooth extractions to address significant decay, dental trauma, and overcrowding that cannot be otherwise corrected. While our doctors will do everything they can to save a tooth, extraction may be necessary if the damage is too extensive.

We also perform wisdom tooth removal. We often recommend removing wisdom teeth during adolescence before they create dental complications such as crowding and abscesses. Wisdom teeth should also be removed if they are erupting at an improper angle.

Canine Exposure

The canine teeth play a vital role in the function and appearance of your smile. However, in some cases, these teeth can become impacted, only partially erupting or not erupting at all. To address this condition, our specialists can provide orthodontic treatment to create space in the jaw for the canines to emerge. Once there is sufficient space, your oral surgeon can expose the canine teeth so they can erupt properly.

Sinus Lift

A sinus lift is sometimes recommended in preparation for dental implants as a way of preventing the implants from disrupting the sinuses. During this procedure, bone tissue is added to the molar and premolar areas of the upper jaw, raising the sinus membrane in order to make room for the implants. Over a period of four to six months, the donor tissue will fuse to your jaw, creating a strong and safe foundation for your implants.

Frenectomy

The frenulum is a band of tissue that restricts the movement of the lips and tongue. If the frenulum is too large, it can hinder the movement of the tongue and lips, affecting your ability to speak and eat. This condition can take a toll on your confidence and overall quality of life. Our surgeons can a perform safe and effective procedure, called a frenectomy, in which the frenulum is removed, restoring proper form and function to your smile.

Orthognathic Surgery

Orthognathic surgery may be provided in combination with orthodontics to address severe malocclusions that conflict with the function and aesthetics of your smile. Also known as corrective jaw surgery, these procedures may address the upper or lower jaw, or as needed, both. A skilled oral surgeon can work with Dr. Hodges and our team to help you find relief from pain, asymmetry, and other issues.
