Amazing work, great communication and flexibility. Great price and payment plans available. All 3 of my sons go here and I would highly recommend them. Thanks!

View on GoogleAre You a Candidate for Teeth Whitening?
Dental stains can develop for a variety of reasons, often from consuming dark-colored foods and drinks. The heavily pigmented molecules from dark foods and drinks adhere to your teeth, resulting in a yellowish or brownish tint to your enamel. Fortunately, these types of extrinsic stains (staining on the surface of your enamel) are treated easily with whitening.
Intrinsic stains (stains rooted deep within the tooth) are not so easy to remove. Bleaching gel typically doesn't reach the deeper layers of the tooth. If you have intrinsic stains, you may be a better candidate for porcelain veneers or dental crowns instead. During your consultation at one of our Philadelphia area offices, we will examine your smile and determine the best solution for your needs.
Teeth Whitening Options
At Kellyn Hodges Orthodontics in Bensalem, Montgomeryville, and Bala Cynwyd, we offer in-office and take-home whitening treatment options.
In-Office Teeth Whitening
If you are preparing for a special occasion like a wedding or graduation, in-office teeth whitening may be the best solution for you. In-office whitening is the fastest treatment option, brightening your enamel by several shades in an hour-long session. During this procedure, our dentists apply a peroxide-based bleaching gel to your enamel, taking special care to avoid your gums. Then, we place your teeth under UV light, triggering a chemical reaction that breaks down your dental stains. Depending on your goals, we can repeat the process up to three times in a single session. Many patients are satisfied with the results they achieve from one treatment appointment, but patients also have the option of returning for a follow-up, in-office appointment to whiten the teeth even further. Or, patients can use an at-home whitening kit to maintain their results.
At-Home Whitening
If you are looking for the most convenient treatment method, at-home whitening may be right for you. Our take-home whitening kits contain professional-strength bleaching gel and custom trays for your upper and lower dental arches. Fill the trays with the gel and place them over your teeth for about 30 minutes at a time. In about two weeks, you will notice the discoloration starting to fade and your teeth begin looking brighter. While the process takes a little longer than in-office teeth whitening, at-home treatment is just as just effective over time. You also have more flexibility with at-home treatment. Some patients choose to wear their trays every day for a few weeks to get dramatic results, while others use the bleaching gel for periodic color maintenance. It's up to you! Contact one of our Philadelphia area offices to get started with take-home whitening treatment.
Check Out the Difference Treatment Can Make
Making Your Results Last
While teeth whitening is not permanent, you can take steps to help your results last longer. Our dentists recommend:
Avoiding Darkly Colored Foods and Drinks
The best way to avoid discoloration is to stay away from dark-colored foods and beverages. If you choose to indulge in a soda or iced coffee, try drinking from a straw to prevent the liquid from touching your teeth.
Using a Whitening Toothpaste
While store-bought toothpaste may not be effective in removing significant discoloration, it can help you maintain your tooth color after a professional treatment. We recommend using ADA-approved whitening toothpaste and brushing your teeth thoroughly twice a day.
Touch-Ups With Professional Take-Home Kits
After getting your teeth whitened in the office, you can conveniently touch up your results at home with a take-home kit.
Practice Good Oral Hygiene
The best way to care for your newly brightened smile is to take good care of your teeth. Floss your teeth once a day, and schedule regular check-ups at one of our three Philadelphia area offices.
