Braces, that is really a name for a group of elements in the system. First, there are brackets, and brackets are the little things that go on to each individual tooth. The brackets are placed on each tooth in what we hope to be an ideal spot. When that wire is run, it's actually the wire that is straightening the teeth. If you have crooked or malaligned teeth or a bad bite, you are a candidate. Sometimes adult treatment can go a little quicker, but in general, an average is two to two and a half years.

What I typically see from patients after, say, for instance, the initial bonding where we actually place the braces, I oftentimes see a sense of relief, satisfaction, and excitement, really. A lot of people have put it off for a long time or were not able to do it as young people. So when they finally are able to do it, there is a really, really positive sense of gratification, is what I see.
